Vance Dunnam’s 70-year career was a testament to his unyielding commitment to his clients and passion for the law. He practiced law until he passed away at the age of 94 in May 2024, never once considering retirement. His presence in the office was a constant, with him attending almost daily until just a few weeks before his death.
Vance Dunnam began his career at the side of his father and brother at Dunnam, Dunnam & Dunnam, and for decades, he helped shape future generations of Dunnam attorneys. Over the years, he practiced law with all three of his children, two grandchildren, and his wife, Merrilee.
Vance graduated from Baylor University in 1951 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, majoring in economics. He earned his law degree from Baylor Law School in 1953 and was a member of the Phi Alpha Delta honors fraternity.
Licensed in Texas in 1954, Vance began his long and successful career serving clients throughout the Waco and Central Texas area in legal matters. He was extensively involved in the legal community, serving as a member of the State Bar of Texas Grievance Committee from 1980-1981 and President of the Waco-McLennan County Bar Association from 1970-1971. In addition to being licensed by the Supreme Court of Texas, Vance was admitted to practice before the U. S. Court of Appeals (Fifth Circuit) and the U.S. District Court (Western District of Texas).
